Now – The Downtown Cumberland Farmers’ Market is a place where the community meets each week to enjoy fresh produce, locally grown fruits, vegetables, plants, organic products, fresh seafood, prepared foods, as well as the work of local artists and craftspeople. The market sets up every Thursday from 9:30 am – 2 pm on Baltimore Street in Historic City Center from May to October.

Now – Hounds Around Town – Looking for a day filled with furry friends and fun??? Then look no further than the Allegany County Animal Shelter’s “Hounds Around Town” program, which allows individuals to sign a shelter dog out for the day.  Being situated in the beautiful mountains of Western Maryland presents a great opportunity for our shelter dogs to experience the joy of a long walk, hike or run in many of the area’s scenic locations. Looking for something more low-key? No problem, we have many pups that would enjoy an afternoon lounging on a couch, a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood or maybe a trip for ice cream. The most important thing is you are giving an adoptable shelter dog a much-needed break from the kennels and providing enrichment and socialization.

Now – Aug 31st The City of Cumberland’s Parks and Recreation Department proudly presents the 2022 Sunday in the Park Concert Series! Join us every Sunday at the Constitution Park Amphitheatre for a concert under the stars. All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. – they are free and open to the public!

Now Aug 12th Constitution Park’s Day Camp will operate from June 20th through August 12th. Day camp will operate from 9am to 4pm, Monday through Friday each week. Extended hours (starting at 8am and ending at 5pm) are offered for an additional $10 per week per child. Parents are responsible for providing transportation for participants in the program. Aug 12-14 Apple Alley Players’ production of Pippin.  It will be performed August 5-7 and 12-14 at the Embassy Theatre on Baltimore Street in Cumberland.  The Friday/Saturday shows start at 8:00 and the Sunday shows start at 2:00.  Adult tickets are $18 and under 18 are $16.  Tickets can be purchased at the Apple Alley website in advance or at the door.

Aug 13th – The Chinese Bandits will be performing at Bishop Walsh High School on Saturday August 13th. Doors open at 6:30pm and music goes from 7pm to 10pm. Aug 13thJoin the Midland Sportsman’s Club for a Fundraising Benefit Ride! Registration will start at 8:30am, and the ride will start at 10am. Registration is $10 per person. The ride will begin and end at the Midlands Sportsman’s Club (The Patch) at 15300 Patch Road in Midland. There will be hamburgers, hotdogs, after the ride. We’re partnering with Western Maryland Food Bank and UPMC Western Maryland to provide a kids-only grocery shopping experience! Staff from the Western Maryland Food Bank will help guide kids in choosing foods that are right for them and Kids will leave with foods they love! These mini markets will be provided at four Allegany County Library System locations.
The shopping experience is about 15 minutes long per child and registration is required.

Aug 20th – Pig Out in the Park: A Backyard BBQ Bash is to be held on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, at Hoffman Hollow Park located at 11200 Hoffman Hollow Road, Frostburg, MD 21532. It will be a fun-filled day of live music, a beer tent, a pie-eating contest, kid zone, local artist vendors, and a backyard BBQ competition! Pig Out will feature kids activities with Joint Training Facility, Mountain City Center for the Arts, local crafters and vendors, a wide variety of beverages, and food vendors from the Frostburg area including Radcliffe Concessions, DeDi’s Kitchen, and more. During all the drinking and eating relax and jam to three locally loved bands! The Hounded, Gilbert Lee & the Ghost on the Radio, and, our grand finale, The Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers, will keep the tunes rolling all day long. Pig Out in the Park also hosts a Kansas Barbecue Society sanctioned backyard BBQ competition, offering local and non-local BBQ competition teams the chance to go down in Backyard BBQ history! Last year winners received over $1,500 in cash prizes! For an extra $5 you can have a say and participate in the people’s-choice competition category to decide who’s BBQ reigns supreme! All proceeds from Pig Out in the Park go to FrostburgFirst: A Maryland Main Street Community and their efforts towards downtown revitalization, promoting small business, engaging the community, and making Frostburg a beautiful and thriving city to live, work, and visit.Tickets are $10, they can be pre-ordered online starting in May, or purchased at the door. Aug 20th – Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and adult leaders from the Potomac District will be holding a Bike Hike and Scout Show at Canal Place on Saturday, August 20, 2022.  The event is designed to highlight the opportunities to participate in a Scouting unit within the local community. The Bike Hike will begin at 9:00 AM that day, leaving from Canal Place for a 20-mile ride out and back on either the GAP Trail or C&O Canal.  Beginning at noon, Scouts from across the district will be manning booths set up at Canal Place to highlight Scouting activities with an Outdoor Adventure theme.  The public is welcome to join the event and see some of the fun activities Scouts can do while enjoying the day at Canal Place. Aug 27th  at  1 P– 6 P Gary and Lena Kenney Memorial Car Show Romney Cycles  In honor of Gary and Lena Kenney, we are having a car show that includes, classic cars, new cars, and motorcycles. There will be 50/50 raffles, music, food, and face painting for the kids.
There will be a dash plaque for the first 50 entries, trophies that include people’s choice, the best of show in each category, and just for fun, there will be a trophy for who wins the “ugly duckling” award. The cost is $10 for each vehicle registered. Hope to see everyone there for a good time.

Aug 31stInternational Overdose Awareness Day in 2022 is August 31st. It’s purpose is to raise awareness of overdoses, reduce stigma of drug related deaths, and acknowledge the grief felt by families and friends. There will be an awareness event at Petersburg Town Park on the 31st from 5pm to 830pm. There will be testimonies, awareness, and remembrance along with vendors and information. Sept 3rd – Don’t miss the 21st Annual Labor Day Super Cruise! They’ll have 6 locations, Classic Car Wash, Burger King, Dairy Queen, McDonalds, Diamond Shine Car Wash, Scotty’s Pizza, and the shopping center. They’ll have free registration at Classic Car Wash and you’ll receive a dash plaque, goody bag, and the chance to register for a cash door prize! The cash door prize of $1000 will be drawn at 9pm. You must be present to win. A 50/50 Raffle will also be offered. Last Labor Day it attracted over 400 cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Sept 10th –  10am to 6pm. There will be a Fundraiser for Elks for Veterans Charity at Heritage Days Festival. The Frostburg Elks will be hosting a booth at the annual Heritage Days Festival. The Cumberland, MD Mermaid Pod is joining forces with Painted Faces by Kayla to provide face painting and glitter tattoos at the festival as a fundraiser for Elks for Veterans charity. The proceeds from those fundraisers will help Elks for Veterans charity to provide support to the veterans. The Cumberland MD Mermaid Pod will have some of your favorite characters available for Meet and Greet opportunities and more. We hope to see you in September. All COVID-19 related safety protocols will be in play at this event. Sept 14th – Allegany County Health Department Behavioral Health Services is hosting a Recovery and Wellness Walk Wednesday, September 14th, from 1pm to 2:30pm on the track at Allegany College of Maryland. Every person impacted by behavioral health issues has a reason to celebrate their story and accomplishment. Free Naloxone Training will be provided. Registration begins at 12:30pm, followed by guest speakers! If you walk the entire 8 laps, you will be registered in the GRAND PRIZE DRAWING! 

Sept 17th – 8th Annual CASA Wine, Spirits, and Craft Beer Festival. Saturday, September 17th from 1-6pm at Canal Place in downtown Cumberland. Tickets are available on Eventbrite.  A full day of tastings, live music, food trucks, vendors, raffles, tip jars, and more! Sept 24thDon’t miss the 2nd annual Teddy Bear Picnic, awareness and fundraising event for Janes Place! It’s Saturday September 24th at Canal Place in Cumberland! They’ll have the music express, the Beaner McKinley Project, music from Scott Alexander, Brickyard Folly, character appearances and photos, raffles, as well as a ton of vendors! Joint Training Facility, Police and Fire Departments, MCCA Performers, Kick Masters Karate Demo Team, Yoga with Holly Harman! So much to do at the teddy bear picnic! There will also be Janes Place Chick Fil A picnic meals while supplies last!  Bring the family, a blanket, and chairs!

Sept 24th  at 9 A 4th Annual Dragon Boat Race Rocky Gap State Park Join us for a fun-filled day with fleets of colorful Dragon Boats as they race to the beat of a drum to help raise money for the Cumberland YMCA. Cheer on teams of paddlers, working with adrenaline-pumping action to the finish line. Participants rave about the excitement, friendly competition, and community spirit surrounding the sport. Each group is encouraged to get into the spirit by choosing a theme, decorating their tents, designing custom T-shirts, and/or costumes to add excitement.

Oct 1st – It’s the first ever Cumberland Bacon Festival presented by Western Maryland Scenic Rail Road! 2pm to 11pm. Food vendors from 3 States creating fantastic, delicious Bacon-centric food items. Great bands and ice cold beer!
